Garbage dumps:

For far too long we’ve held this fantasy that when we through garbage away it somehow disappears. It doesn’t really. It’s just that Earth is a really big place, but eventually that stuff we throw away accumulates somewhere:In our land and air and in this case our oceans: BBC News - Plastic rubbish blights Atlantic Ocean Scientists have discovered an area of the North Atlantic Ocean where plastic debris accumulates.
